04:40 am - Changes
I read an article on The Best Article Every Day that basically said "Memories fade so you should keep a journal."  I don't think it specifically meant livejournal, but I suppose it counts.  So eighty-something weeks later, I've decided to pick it up again.

I'm writing this while feeding Connor at 4.45am.  On the one hand, part of me is saying "I'm looking forward to when Connor does X, Y or Z (e.g. smiles, crawls, walks, leaves home... etc).  It's tiring work right now.  But Helen said "enjoy the now - don't just look forward." At the time I thought "but all he does is eat, sleep, need his nappy changing, oh and CRY!  But looking back, even after just 7 weeks, actually Connor really has made plenty of changes.

In week 1, he barely opened his eyes.  Now, he spends a lot of time with his eyes open, (when they aren't screwed up with crying), has some head control, follows you around the room with his eyes, *almost* smiles, and is even already becoming a telly-addict!  And I'm sure there is plenty else that he is doing too.

But I'm still looking forward to when he lets us get a bit more sleep.  I'm allowed to wish for that, right?

07:19 pm - An update
Well, in the 80 odd weeks since I last posted, I've become a husband, and a father, and at work I've become a tools programmer. Guess which I'm most excited about.

Connor is 7 weeks old and doesn't let us get much sleep at all...

03:15 pm - Piano and other stuff
Operation recovery going mostly well. So I've now joined the JJB fitness centre. I asked Helen, she said "Join the Village". I asked Ben. He said "Join the Village". I asked Greg. He said "Join the Village". So I joined JJB. (Reason being - JJB is closer to my flat).

I can't do much in the gym yet, until I've given my wound more time to heal, so limited really to walking on the treadmill and swimming. Joined this morning. Went for about an hour and a half.

Piano.

Within about 6 months of getting my piano, one of the key's touch sensitivity started playing up. I'd be playing a nice gentle piece when all of a sudden, BOOM, one of the keys would make a really loud sound and make me jump out of my skin.

I've had the piano apart numerous times, and had the advice of two yamaha engineers but I still haven't got it fixed. It's driving me crazy. It's basically stopping me from playing the piano. Which means I've got a thousand pound musical instrument sat in my living room that's just taking up space. :(

I spoke to an engineer today and he's going to call Yamaha. I hope he solves it for me.

Not a very happy Timmy.

08:55 pm - An update
Since last time...

Quit running. Joined a gym. Had an operation to attempt to repair a hernia (time will tell if it was succesfull). Quit the gym (since I'm not allowed to do anything strenuous while recovering from op).

Am now in York for the weekend. (yay!). Met up with Katie and Huw and will hopefully see Denis in the next coupla days.

My programming at home (for fun!) ground to a halt. For about 2 months. I wasn't sure where to go next with my engine. I've decided to revive my programming at home with simple programs that I can practice technique with.

One day I might start updating this more often. I used to try and entertain at the same time as write this journal. One day I might try that again.

09:54 pm - Update
This month I've mostly been programming...

Ok, and I've been to visit Helen in Lincoln, and Tom in Nottingham.

Going to go visit Bob in a couple of weeks.

Bought a hamster. Am starting to regret it (how long do hamsters live again?)

Bored. Walked to Padgate. Took me 40 minutes. It wasn't worth it. I walked back.

Spent the rest of the day trying to track down a bug. Finally got it at 8.30pm. I can see why programming is addictive. True, it took me all day to find this bug, when I could have been working on new features, but at the same time, the feeling when I found the bug was fantastic.

Hmm. I've got to get out more!

10:57 pm - Update
Got my first milestone to contribute to at work coming up. Work going ok. Reading new book - a brief history of infinity. Not as good as I expected it to be - it's more a history lesson than I expected.

My editor is coming along. Done lots of tidying and am quite pleased with several areas.

One day I'll upload it to my site.

Am a bit lonely though. Don't really know anybody in Warrington. Helen will be away for 9 weeks for her summer camp job. I miss being in York :(

11:03 pm - keeping fit
/me has joined a leisure club. I've started using a gym for the first time in my life. I haven't got a clue what I'm doing. I don't know how to warm up or cool down. I'm just making it up as I go along. I go for a swim afterwards. And use the steam room.

And I'm as surprised as everyone else isn't - that I'm enjoying it!

12:49 pm - Foods
Got me a blender (been making milkshake and soup) and a George Foreman Lean green milling... er mean green leen... er machine. It grills meat. It's convenient and stuff. I'd say it made stuff "different". Nice, but not something to eat every day.

Helen bought me a wok.

We made flapjacks yesterday.

Went to pub with neighbours on Friday.

Bought some new piano music.

I want to start a juggling club in Warrington. If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Been programming. One day I might post the fruits of my labour to my website.

In the meantime I'll get back to programming.

10:23 pm - Just in case
Just in case you're reading this and didn't know, Helen and I are engaged, and have been since last summer.

I've been running again since last post, but not very much, or very far. Still need to build up.

Picked up a copy of Dune from the charity bookshop. It's ok so far. I figured "it's one of them classics (for a sci fi fan) so I suppose I'd better get round to reading it one day".

Also read Da-Vinci code, and Curious incident of dog in the night time. Also re-reading my Pratchett collection, reading the C++ Programming book written by Bjarne Strstr...something (the author of C++), Code complete, it's about time I re-read Lord of the Rings... lots of books!

And very addicted to GTA on our PSP. Almost finished it, then I'll start on Tomb Raider (which Helen has bought me for my Birfday) next week.

In case anyone's around - I'll be in York next weekend for Woodstock and birthday party. (Meal in Oscars).

10:10 pm - beetroot
Sooo... turns out I was probably on a non-starter with my matrices thing... never mind.

I'm not getting any fitter. I hardly do any exercise. Last week I noticed I was running out of breath just walking and talking at the same time! I mentioned to my sister who's training to be a med, and she said that what I described was a "level 3 on the New York heart problem scale" - and then she pointed out that there are only 4 levels!

Ok, maybe joking a little, but it got me thinking. So yesterday I went for a run. After being outdoors in the sun all afternoon. I thought I was going to die! And I only ran for about 2 minutes. Eeek. Talk about not in shape.

So I ran today, for about 5 minutes. And hopefully I'll be able to build up to decent length runs. And maybe loose some weight and/or add some years to my life expectancy. :-S

07:43 pm - Matrices
Work getting better - am actually feeling like I'm contributing now!

Helen been over. <BEGIN SARCASM>Helen loves me to write lots about her in my live journal, so here goes. <END SARCASM>.

Helen cooked lasagna for tea today (delicious). She's been helping me shop, entertaining me, helping me with maths stuff for my programming and she's finally completed a really difficult mission on GTA (I'm so proud of her).

Tom been over (yay). Watched Magnolia again. Great film (Helen doesn't think so).

Spent the last couple of days deriving transformation matrices from local to world space.

Yes I know it's been done, but danged if I know where to find it on t'internet. Besides, deriving it from scratch gives me a deeper understanding of it. I think I'm going to write it up. Maybe even submit to gamedev. I'd be chuffed if it got accepted :)

09:31 am - Stuff
I'm learning to Speak Japanese (try clicking "random foshata").

'tis Sunday and Helen is over for the weekend. Yesterday we went to my grandma's birthday party. We brought cake back with us :) (kind of a standard from parties, really).

I want to write a 3d editor. I've written a simple squares drawing tool, but before I move into 3d, I'd like to know how to add toolbars and things. So I'm learning windows programming first.

Then I can write my 3d editor, then there'll be nothing in my way to write amazing games and make millions! Bwahahaha.

11:29 am - First week
Hmm. First week done at work.

Been programming lots at home. Just got my internet. Tried to go to church this morning to the 8am Sunday mass. Got up at 7.30am on a Sunday! When I got there the church was locked. I looked at the sign for mass times, and 8am Sunday had mysteriously vanished... See, I reckon, they saw me coming, and quickly rubbed out the details and changed them when I wasn't looking. Hmm.

So, gonna wait for Helen to get back from her weekend camping thing, and go tonight at 5pm. Unless that one gets secretly changed too!

08:18 pm - Sleeping on the floor in my new house
Got to start writing in this thing more!

Well. Recently, Helen and I have been to Canadaland. We mostly stayed in Toronto, visiting my relatives. We went up the CN tower (but I couldn’t see my house from up there), the Niagara falls, and we went to a cottage (mansion) for the weekend.

I’m also starting a new job. Tomorrow me becomes a games programmer for THQ. I’m living in Warrington, which is a bit different to York… Helen has gone back to York so I’m all on my own :( (but it’s alright because she’ll be back on Tuesday after her exam :)

I don’t have a bed. I ordered furniture a month ago and the stoopid shop keeps messing up our delivery. They’ve been rude, they’ve given my furniture to other customers. They’ve hung up on us. Grr.

The most recent problem: We told the shop that our plane would arrive on Thursday morning. They said it’d be alright – the delivery will be booked for the afternoon – 12 til 6. The plane back from Canada was delayed by an hour and a half. In Glasgow airport we phoned the shop. We said we’d been delayed but were still trying to make our 12 til 6 slot – please can we have the delivery later on in the slot – no, the driver won’t deviate from his route – you’re booked in the first hour! We RAN through the airport to try and meet Sarah who gave us a lift to Warrington; We raced back to my flat. We got there by 12 noon! We were excited about the new delivery coming (well I was, I don’t know about Helen). At 12:40 I noticed a missed call on my mobile. For 10:40am. Which was when we were in the air (so prolly not a good idea to have answered it). Guessing that it was the driver, we called back. He’d phoned at 10.40 to ask the way to the flat and since nobody answered he left Warrington for the next delivery, and no he wouldn’t come back to Warrington. ARG. Why didn’t he know where he was going in the first place!? He should have come at 12 o’clock like we were told he would. As you might be able to tell, I’m a little bit annoyed with them. So now I’m sleeping on the floor for the week, starting a new job tomorrow, jet-lagged, and not getting any good sleep because of this stoopid shop.

Oh, and I’m on dialup until my broadband is enabled, and the library won’t let me post to livejournal because it is filtered – it’s “offensive”.

10:26 am - Blame Canada
Long way into holiday now. Went to the CN Tower on Tuesday. Looked around Kathryn's university on Wednesday during the day and went to see the Lord of the Rings musical in the evening. It was teh amazing!

Today we are off to a cottage for the weekend. Should be good fun.

I need to start updating this thing more.

06:19 pm - Telephone
Now missing Helen lots. Sitting around feeling bored and lonely and sorry for myself.

I've been so bored that I've been doing work-work in my spare time! (For the uninitiated - work-work means the work that I normally do at work and get paid for - as opposed to study-work which Helen should be doing. In fact - it should be the other way around. I should be in Ireland on Holiday and Helen should be in York studying!)

I think I've finally completed my online diary for the intranet at work. And I've been working on a training database.

Oh, and I've just started using Skype (internet telephone thingy). Quality isn't brilliant but it makes international calls 1p per minute! I'm now wondering who I should phone. :) (Ha! Who needs landlines now?)

Off to Wentworth tonight to eat and drink.

08:02 pm - Long time no update
Been busy with Helen so not much time for updates.

Been painting miniatures. Over the last couple of weeks.

Went to parent's for Easter. Was also Mum's birthday.

Been playing with ASP again, this time for work. Writing an online diary for people to book out cars, IT equipment, room etc.

Also built some brand new boards for Warhammer that I'm looking forward to testing out.
